ACTIVITIES: Sewing!
Okay, so I recently started to sew, and I love it! I am making things left and right! I made this cute little dress for a toddler (it fit my niece Jaina, who is 3), and I am now selling it on eBay. Please, go take a look!

RANDOM: They Took Tink :(
One night after a long evening at my parents’ house, Ky and I were headed home. We were out of milk, but I needed to go to bed soon and didn’t want to eat right before I went to sleep. Looking back on the whole thing, I should have taken Ky up on his offer to stop by King’s right then and there. But I didn’t.
So we go home. After about an hour at home, I decide that I really do want some cereal. But, of course, we don’t have any milk. Ky graciously says that he will go to King’s with me to get some. So we do. We end up spending more than an hour there, grocery shopping for the whole month. By the time we get to the checkout, it’s about 1:30am. But that’s soon becomes the least of my worries.
We get out to the truck and I realize that I don’t have my purse on my shoulder anymore. I look in the cart and in the back of the truck, but it’s not there. Not too panicked, I lightly jog back inside to get it from the self checkout where I thought I left it. But when I get in there, it’s not there. I think to myself, I must have left it somewhere in the truck. I’m starting to panic at this point because I’m almost sure it’s not there.
Sure enough, it’s not. I run back inside and ask the lady at the counter if she maybe saw that I left it and took it to her station. She hadn’t seen it. I asked if someone walked out after us, and she said a lady did, but it didn’t look like she had a purse with her. She suggests that I look around the store to see if I set it down somewhere. I know for a fact that I didn’t, but as a last ditch effort, I frantically run through the isles looking for it. It’s gone.
I start crying.
The next day, the post office calls me to let me know that they found it. The lady who had stolen it had dropped it into a post bin. So, after work, I rush over to the post office to pick it up. But when I look inside, the two most important things are gone: my wallet and my brand new palm pilot. Big surprise, right?
Although I wasn’t surprised, that little glimmer of hope was reignited when the post office called me, so when it was confirmed that they were really gone, I started to cry once again. When it was stolen in the first place, I began thinking about why she took it. Was she hard up for cash? Did she need to feed herself or her kids? Would she pawn off my palm pilot for some dope? Or was she just greedy and got a thrill out of taking stuff that didn’t belong to her? I didn’t want to think bad of her. I tried so hard to say that she needed it because it was her kids’ last hope for food.
On a positive note, the day after I got the purse back, I looked in the little zipper pocket and found all of my credit cards, my driver’s license, everything that had been in my wallet was in there. The only reason I think she might have done that was because she either was only interested in the wallet and the palm pilot and didn’t want to get caught using somebody else’s credit card (crime of opportunity), or maybe she thought that the wallet was a designer wallet. It was really a cheap, $10 Wal-Mart wallet, but it was my favorite one. I don’t know why I liked it so much, but I did. Maybe I can still find the same one or a similar one at Wal-Mart….
Anyway, if anybody knows anything about this (it was the King’s in Arvada, at 80th and Wads), PLEASE let me know. I just want my palm pilot back.
Oh, and the purse had a picture of Tinkerbell on it, hence the title reference.
ENTERTAINMENT: “I’m Alive” by Brian Littrell
I am such a huge Backstreet Boys fan. Well, at least I used to be. I still like some of their music, but they should now be referred to as the Backstreet Men. Except for Nick. I still see him as a boy.
But my favorite has always been Brian. I think because he was a little more shy, a little more reserved, not so willing to expose himself or to do things he didn’t want to do just for the publicity they might receive because of it. And although I didn’t know it for a long time, he is also a Christian. That is very ironic because I had four other friends who each had their Backstreet Boy. None of the other Backstreet Boys are Christians (as far as I know), and none of those friends of mine are Christians (as far as I know). But they do resemble their Backstreet Boy in some way or another. I didn’t know it, but I was destined to be a Christian like Brian.
I love Brian’s songs. I have always loved his voice, regardless of what he was singing about, but his solo gospel songs are so incredibly deep and moving. One that I have recently become very moved by is called “I’m Alive.” Here are the lyrics:
I lived a lot of life
I caught a dream or two
It’s been a sweet ride
But I’ve faced my share of nights
Searched like we all do
Looking inside
Now I’m standing here
‘Cause You’ve made it clear
This heart inside me beats because
You loved enough to take my cross
I’m alive
You gave Your life to shatter death
So even after my last breath
I’m alive
I’m finally wide awake
I’m finished being know
It’s a new day
I feel it on my face
In hope’s a midnight sun
That won’t fade
I’m bowing down
And I’m crying out
This heart inside me beats because
You loved enough to take my cross
I’m alive
You gave Your life to shatter death
So even after my last breath
I’m alive
Forever, forevermore
Forever, Lord
I think the most moving part for me is when he sings “So even after my last breath, I’m alive” because it’s so true. I’m still afraid of death. I’m afraid of dying. But it makes it a lot less scary to know that I will still be alive after death on this earth. It will just be an infinitely better alive than I could ever hope to have here on earth. That hit me real hard when listening to this song just now.
Seriously, if you get a chance, listen to this song. Buy his CD or search it on YouTube. Or if you have Zune or iTunes or some other program, maybe just listen to a snippet. And if you like it well enough, then buy it. I love it.
PS – The harmony is awesome, and I am all about harmony.
PPS – I also love that if you go to his website, the photos are not just of him, like most self-centered musicians and actors do. They are of him and his family. His life. That’s just awesome to me. It looks like you would see those pictures in an album in their house, you know?
FRIENDS: Swept Away!
Okay, so I’m so excited! One of my best friends of fifteen years, Ashlie, is getting married in January! Although I’ve known this for a while, the flame of excitement has been rekindled because she asked me yesterday if I could go and try on some bridesmaid dresses with her. That wouldn’t be so exciting if I wasn’t a bridesmaid, but luckily, I am. And although I was excited to look at dresses, I was more excited to see Ashlie and Mallory, for sure. I had seen Ashlie more recently, but I hadn’t really seen Mallory since high school, so I was super excited to see her. And I was looking forward to meet Ashlie’s roommate at CSU, Liz.
So today, I woke up and got ready to drive up to Fort Collins. I was doing good, running right on schedule. But something happened, I’m not even really sure what, and I end up leaving about ten minutes late. I finally get on the road, stop at the gas station for a morning snack, and get onto the highway. The second I hit the highway, I realize that I left my phone at home. Crap. So, I have to turn around and go get it. I almost didn’t because I didn’t think I would need it. You will find out later that I definitely needed it.
So I get my phone and head out. I’m now trying to drive a 53 minute drive in 10 minutes. Obviously, I’m not going to do it. But I’m hoping to get there without losing too much more time. Well, that didn’t really work out so well. There were two different construction zones, and two accidents along the way. All four times, traffic slowed to no more than 20 mph for at least two miles each time. You know how you’re on the highway and traffic comes to a hault for no apparent reason, and then, just as you see the accident on the side of the road, traffic starts to pick up again? That pisses me off to no end. ”Look, Martha! Let’s stop in the middle of the highway to stare at those unfortunate people and slow everybody down behind us! I see a dent!”
So anyway, I get to Fort Collins. I hit my exit. I’m cruising right along. I’m supposed to see the street to turn onto about five miles after my exit. Okay, no problem. Well, five miles comes and no sign of it. Ten miles, no sign. I’m into the mountains and I’m thinking to myself, “I don’t think she lives this far west.” Sure enough. I text her and she tells me to turn around. I finally find her house, and we head out to the bridal shop.
Swept Away Bridal Botique I think is the name of it. It’s this cute little bridal shop in Loveland just a few exits south of Fort Collins. We go inside and look at their slideshow of current dresses in stock and soon to be in stock. So, we write down the styles that we want, and the lady gets most of them for us to try on. These are the four that we liked the best that were available in grape:
- Mallory in the short black number.
- Me in the pretty lace wrap.
- Me in my favorite one of the four.
- Liz in a beautiful halter.
ABOUT: Tigerlily Sandybanks
Okay, I have to explain the Tigerlily Sandybanks title, first of all. Not much to tell, actually. I had a really good anagram of my maiden name, Allergy Monk, but since I got married, that wasn’t really valid anymore. I went searching around on the internet for a good anagram creater. I found a pretty good one, but none of the names really flowed well like Allergy Monk.
So, I was looking for a name generator and low and behold, there was an elven and hobbit name generator. Now, I love the Lord of the Rings, but I’m not a super huge fanatic like some people are. But I gave it a shot. So, I put in Kelly Goeken. It came up with something silly. And Kellyn was even worse. Esmerelda, I think. So I did Kellyn Marie Goeken, my full name, and it came up with Tigerlily. I love that name. It’s really pretty and it reminds me of Peter Pan, which for some strange reason, I love.
Boring, right? So, Tigerlily Sandybanks is born. I hope I can sustain her. My baby….
